The weather recently has been wet, and Sunday was particularly wet. Did it stop at all!!! I’m not sure. However, having spent a morning on the sofa watching T.V I was beginning to feel a bit stir crazy and had the need to move.
We have recently lost out dog Rubi and for me this is the first time in 3o+ years I haven’t had a dog. I am missing the walking as well as my dear furry friends. So big waterproof coat, umbrella and walking boots I set off for a stroll in the rain.
I walked through Waterloo Park and took in the sounds of bird song, the flower beds planted by friends of Waterloo park, the transitions of the season and I was pleased that I had come out.
Ahead of me I watched a woman and two children. They were obviously open to being in the rain and I smiled as the two girls stomped, splashed and enjoyed the deluged of water covering the path. Suitably dressed for the weather in colourful macs and wellies they were making the most of it with mum watching quietly in the wings.
I stood beside her and commented. “They are having fun in the rain”.
“Yes, well its so easy, to bring them here and watch them enjoying themselves, then home for a hot bath.”
As I walked away, I smiled, it felt good to know that children can still enjoy being in the rain. And I can too come to that.
